-> I thought you might want to know that today we celebrated dicovery -> of gold in the Klondike. -> George Washington Carmack, Skookum Jim and Dawson Charlie -> discovered the mother lode in Rabbit Creek (now Bonanza Creek) -> on August 16, 1896 and recorded the claim the following day. -> However, it took almost a -> year for the news to get "outside" -> and the rest is history. Long ago, my new wife and I were at the Discovery Day celebration. We spent the night in Whitehorse and decided that we could spend some time in Whitehorse. We planned to drive about 700km to Alaska (before the highway was paved), spend the night near the border, and continue to Anchorage the next day. We never did find a place to stay the night until we were about 40km from Anchorage. At that point, we decided not to stop. Al totaled, we drove over 1300 km; about half was two lane road and the other half gravel road. One of my wife's favorite pieces of jewelry is a pendant she got in Whitehorse during the Discovery Days celebration. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
