And I really liked this aspect of the storyline. It actually ties in
perfectly well with practically *all* of his backstory, viz:

-- With Paul Bearer manipulating him, he never spoke and was at his most
covered up. Presumably, this was because Bearer was reinforcing the
"freakishly disfigured" belief of Kane.

-- Kane started showing more skin, and using that voice box machine to
help him talk; then X-Pac made him ditch the machine and convinced him he
could talk without it -- and he could, because he wasn't really all that
badly hurt by the fire.

-- Kane continued to show more skin, and by the time he joined up with RVD
he'd "overcome" his speech problem to the point where he could talk
normally. Of course, the problem was all in his head to begin with.

-- This also explains why women like Katie Vick and Torri (remember her?)
would be willing to be involved with Kane (well, this and the fact that
he ain't called the "big red machine" for nothin' ;) )

I like it when retrofitted angles fit so well. Really, up until the
godawful burning-of-JR bit, I think the Kane angle was moving along
swimmingly. And aside from that bit (which was really bad) it's still
doing okay. Sure, no one's mentioned that Bischoff is just as much to
blame as Austin, but a) Bischoff et al. wouldn't, b) Austin isn't
necessarily the sort who would think of that, c) the Coach is too
incompetent to be expected to think of it.

If it still goes unmentioned next week, then yes, I'd say it's an
oversight on the writers' part. But until then, I'm willing to treat it as
an oversight on the part of the characters.

I still have my hopes up for this Kane bit. Except for the burning (and
some of the camera angle changes in the interview, but that's nitpicking) it's
been pretty decent so far.
