Hi All,
In 1929,Admiral Richard Byrd's Fokker Super Universal XI
monoplane was flipped by a wind gust at Lake Aquamarine,in the
Rockefeller mountains Antarctica,(about 500 miles from Scott Base).
The aircraft is still in quite good condition, and an attempt will
be made to recover it next year, with the help of some gentlemen (?)
of the US Air National Guard, who require five cases of beer to for
the use of several hundred million dollars worth of US taxpayers
equipment for this quite laudable purpose ;-)
However, information is needed on the fate of the original engine (which
was salvaged by Byrds party)....anyone ?
Regards,
Rick
