I was told by a tech at a client's ISP that Symantec Antivirus Corporate
Edition intercepts all outbound connection attempts to port 25 (in order to
scan outgoing mail for viruses). I did not believe him. To prove it he
had me try to telnet on port 25 to his POP server. I could not do it with
SAV running. Once I uninstalled SAV, I could connect via telnet.

Don't discount the possibility that Norton ate your mail.
