I block all attachments at PPE, we also have virus filters on the mail
server that are updated hourly (yes HOURLY). Last night a new version of an
email virus got released, 30 of them went thru the virus filters before the
updated AV started blocking them. My attachment block caught them and
prevented them from getting into the network.
Now if we ran AV on each workstation, then by the time the users came in
the next morning that AV would have probably been updated and caught them
as the users tried to open the email, BUT what happens when someone
releases one of these virus during the day??
I can't understand how corporate networks are supposed to survive this
crap, some places don't have an option, they need to accept attachments
direct to each user, no way can those ever be secured. It just happens too
fast sometimes to prevent the infections.
Let them bitch, they bitch louder when NOTHING works..
Geo.
