Hello mark,

Then why aren't "others" joining the conversation? It only seems
to be you for
some odd reason.

file_id.diz's that I or others create will be used when hatched from my
system. I will not alter any files in archives to suit very few people's
griping.

 NB>> You're right. It's the sysop's choice. And myself (as a sysop), I

 ml> 3. delete the files

They do not have to do anything. It may look like crap somewhere, but
elsewhere it will look fine. It all depends on what software the sysop chooses
to use.

ml> hell, i spent 12 hours the other day having to edit file descriptions

ml> thinking about it pisses me off...

And I'll leave mine well enough alone, because it's not nearly as big a deal
as you seem to think it is. The original creator of the file_id.diz of
the archive wanted it to look a certain way. If it doesn't display on some
systems, it's not the original creator's fault.

ml> no sir, it is not... but i'm also not talking about your choice in
ml> that... i'm talking about your choice when creating the DIZ files and
ml> the descriptions you use when you hatch files into the distribution
ml> stream(s)... what you do on your bbs is fine and good... it is what
ml> others are forced to have to do to deal with the mess that i'm trying
ml> to point out and clarify for you and others lurking in gallery...

That has nothing to do with me, or what I do with my own file_id.diz. If it
doesn't display properly on your system, remove it for all I care. It's
standard ASCII, and if your system can't handle that, you have much bigger
problems than this one.

ml> making a choice to wrap descriptions is not having an 80's POV nor is
ml> it using software that has not evolved... those are poor arguments...

Wrapping file_id.diz's shouldn't be done, period. file_id.diz's were meant to
be 45 characters wide. So any original file_id.diz would be altered when
displayed the way you're describing. That's obviously my own opinion, but,
that opinion will not change either.

ml> then why the hell did you try to bring the FTSC into the discussion???

Because at the moment, you're doing something that an FTSC member shouldn't be
doing, and that's forcing your (and a very FEW others) beliefs onto someone
else.

ml> yeah, and it worked, didn't it... i'm still here and i'm still helping
ml> others... i'm even helping you with some things concerning your
 ml> system's operation...

This conversation is not helping one bit, yet you continue to argue your
point which is moot. file_id.diz's have been done in multiple ways (probably
even foreign languages that may or may not display properly on some systems)
for decades. I'm not changing that now.

ml> sorry but i'm not going to just stand by and watch others get run
ml> over... i never have and i never will...

Who ran who over here? I sent a message to "ALL" offering another place to
hatch their infopacks. That is all. I didn't say anything bad about Robert, or
directed towards him. So your "defence tactic" here is completely invalid.

NB>> Heh. You can call me names all you want (I actually didn't think
NB>> it would go there, but alas, I was proven wrong),

ml> no problem with that.. only when it affects others is when problems
 ml> come about...

That is not my problem. :D

ml> it quoted robert's post and as such, it was a reply to robert's
ml> post... i never tried to make it a problem and i certainly didn't want
ml> the shit to go on as long as it has... once again, i only tried to
ml> explain why the posted request was made... you bounced back in defense
ml> instead of looking at the situation from other's points of view and
 ml> acknowledging the problem...

No. It was NOT a reply to Robert's post. The message was (on purpose, mind
you) directed to ALL. He wants to stop releasing infopacks on his FDN, I
offered another place to continue releasing them.

I don't care about other's points of view on this subject. Plain ascii is not
wrong by any means. If your system can't display them properly, that's not my
problem, it's yours (not you literally).

ml> BTW: your system seems to be down again... web site is inaccessible
ml> and so is your mailer... traceroutes reach your system IP, though... i
ml> hope it isn't anything serious...

It wasn't, and is fixed now. Gentoo is getting an attitude with me, so I may
have to not answer her phone calls, kick her out of my house (BBS box), and
find a replacement. :)

Regards,
Nick
