Now that the Windows OS of our mail server has been patched, the slow SMTP
response problem has gone away.  I expect that you are on the correct track
(and hinted at that in my original message) with the hidden stub.

One time the wait was about two minutes, and I still did not need the
password.  I did not see what the longest wait would be (at work I have
work to do), so it may be possible that a wait longer than 2 mintues would
still not need a password.
