Anyone know why my W2K SP4 notebook has been trying to connect to the host
stats.update.microsoft.com whenever I boot it up? The two
connection attempts per boot-up started right after my recent visit to
Microsoft Update two days ago.

There were no connection attempts to that host prior to the visit to
Microsoft Update, so I suspect the recent patches have something in them
that is initiating the connection. Naturally I'm curious what that might
be. MSN search came up blank. ("* We couldn't find any results
containing stats.update.microsoft.com.")
