Federal Hydra-Shok brand ammo is a unique bullet design that seems to 
expand slower moving bullets (.45acp, .380acp, & .40S&W 180gr) with 
better reliability than regular hollowpoints.  Police have used the 
.45acp version with great success, and at worst, they are no worse than 
any other JHP of similar weight and energy.
