maybe because we're in the OTHERNETS echo which isb't generally read
because it has been nothing but repetitive robot postings for the most part
of the last two decades?? the discussion really hasn't been on topic for
this area anyway ;)

NB> It only seems to be you for some odd reason.

maybe because i scan through all areas that my systems carry... there's
nothing like seeing the same messages 5 or 6 times over %|

not doing anything is doing something ;) everyone has to do something even
if it is nothing... in this case, nothing would equate to possibly having
crappy looking (wrapped or not) file descriptions...

they look pretty crappy to me... they're not wrapped, either... they are
too long and truncated...

there's still roughly 1000 to fix in the one group... the really cruddy
part is that some (maybe most) of them do have file_id.diz but they are
broken dizes... they have *nix EOL (end of line) characters instead of the
traditional format using CRLF (carriage return and line feed)... as such,
they break database pretty badly and still require manual editing to fix
them :(

ml> making a choice to wrap descriptions is not having an 80's POV nor is
ml> it using software that has not evolved... those are poor arguments...

 NB> Wrapping file_id.diz's shouldn't be done, period. file_id.diz's
NB> were meant to be 45 characters wide. So any original file_id.diz

actually, 45 characters or less in width... that's because 45 character
width is what was set in one BBS software package for the column used to
hold the files' descriptions... some systems allow for more width... some
have to use less... my system allows be to choose what ever i want and to
list the parts in any order i want... i could make the description come
first if i wanted to... it is a simple template to edit... that's another
reason why the specs were specified the way they were... it easliy allowed
for re-wrapping since everything was all words or numbers and not
drawings... but whatever... obviously i don't know or understand any of
this because i was there when it was developed...

ml> then why the hell did you try to bring the FTSC into the discussion???

NB> Because at the moment, you're doing something that an FTSC member
NB> shouldn't be doing, and that's forcing your (and a very FEW
NB> others) beliefs onto someone else.

please tell me this is a joke and that you didn't make that rookie mistake
of thinking that someone wears their hats all the time... i've not had my
FTSC (or my NC) hat on at all in this discussion... i don't recall the FTSC
having anything to do with the standard being discussed... i'm just an
average joe sysop here... one who is, admittedly, quite peeved because of
how his files areas look because of others' frak-ups...

NB> No. It was NOT a reply to Robert's post.

you had to hit the [R]eply button to quote it, nick... it was a reply...

NB> The message was (on purpose, mind you) directed to ALL.

it doesn't matter who it was addressed to... followups, which some of your
software can do, are also replies even though they are addressed by default
to the same person the one being quoted was responding to...

NB> He wants to stop releasing infopacks on his FDN,

no he doesn't... his FDN is infopacks! he asked that people respect and
follow the file_id.diz specs... if they cannot do that, /then/ he would not
hatch their packs...

ml> BTW: your system seems to be down again... web site is inaccessible

ml> hope it isn't anything serious...

NB> It wasn't, and is fixed now. Gentoo is getting an attitude with me,

if i had a faster and more reliable way to let you know, i would have done
so... i had not had any luck connecting since about 0500 my time IIRC...
