I'm installing MySQL and have just told the installer to apply the settings to the
MySQL database. I'm getting:
"The security settings could not be applied to the database because
the connection
has failed with the following error:
Error No. 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)
If a personal firewall is running on your machine, please make sure you have opened
the TCP port 3306 for connections....
Well, I went into PC-Cillin and added the mysqld-nt.exe as an exception that accepted
connections on port 3306. That did not help.
I didn't want to do that anyway because I just want to connect to that port locally
and not make it visible on the internet.
I'm confused on what to do. Do you suppose that 'localhost' isn't mapping
to 127.0.0.1? Or should I configure instead to use named pipes? I'd rather
do TCP/IP so
that I mirror more closely what will happen on the eventual deployment machine.
I used to use Sygate on another machine and they let you configure each exe for local
versus network access on each port. I do not see that sort of flexibility
in PC-Cillin.
Or do I need to add an entry for MySQL's configuration process? I'm going to try that
next.
