MP> I suspect that there will be fewer in the middle income area. And, I
MP> doubt many Blacks and Hispanics.
Why?
I'm very interested in this largely because the statistical analysis that
has been done so far has determined that there are few people of color with
ADHD, but it has has failed to distiguish whether that is because there are
proportionately few people of color in the upper classes, where ADHD is most
likely to be diagnosed.
If ADHD is part of the "frontier complex", and that explains the high
incidence among whites in colonized countries, it should also be found in
high numbers among Americans of Asian descent, as well as Hispanics, and in
relatively low numbers among American Indians and those of
African descent...although, with the level of intermarriage that's gone on
over the centuries, that could be really hard to determine.
As the only woman of color I know who has ADHD, this is of particular
nterest
to me. My black ancestors who came here did so under their own volition to
farm and make their fortunes, so they may have been influenced by a
"frontier" set of genes which they passed on to me. Likewise, it may have
come from my white ancestors. According to Thom Hartman's hypothesis,
though, the hunter-gatherer lifestyle of my indian ancestors was conducive to
the survival of ADHD individuals, so who knows?
I think ol' Thom's a crock anyway.
