Good question.
I used to buy quite a few CDs - all of which were immediately ripped to
disk for playing with my various digital music devices. I haven't listened
to a CD using a CD player for several years now, not even in my car.
Now, with all this copy protection about, I have to conduct a federal
investigation prior to purchase to ensure the CD is "clean" and
easily rippable. As that's a hassle, and since in general you can't return
an opened CD, the net result is I now buy very few CDs.
What a great business model. Discourage your best customers from legally
purchasing music. Case in point: I would have bought the Springsteen
"Born To Run" CD by now, but it's released by Sony, so ...
