The problem with MS is that from the start computer software companies
were allowed to exempt themselves from a contract of performance like we
expect from a normal service industry. For example a car repair in my
jurisdiction is supposed to be guaranteed for 3 months, same thing for a
plumber who repairs a pipe, etc. However, MS was allowed to get away
with the little fine print denying any responsibility for the failure of
their software to do the job or damage other equipement. Had they been
nailed from the outset, I'm of the opinion we would have had really
great software today, instead of the mickymousing we have to endure now!
