JANE KELLEY was thinking about Ritalin and keyed into cyberspace:
JK> MP> And the studies I quoted to you are as relevant today as they
JK> MP> were just a few years ago, like 1994, 1995 and 1996, when they
JK> MP> showed that true ADHD is not caused by diet.
JK>ADHD does not have changes in the P.E.T. scans, according to the
JK>stuff I downloaded and therefore, isn't genetic.
The "stuff" you just downloaded should rot your hard drive. Alan
Zametkin at the NIH (you do know what that is, don't you?) demonstrated
underactivity in the area of the brain which controls impulsivity nearly
a decade ago. Recently, a team led by him found that the same area is
proportionately smaller in the ADHD brain.
JK>The genetic conditions I am aware of are alcoholism, bipolar
JK>disorder, schizophrenia and some of the obsessions. P.E.T. scans
JK>are also being used to diagnose several other conditions such as
JK>epilepsy.
Your level of awareness is very limited.
JK>I could dig out a paper on this from one of the Cortext lectures to
JK>make certain, but since I have long since suggested that you find
JK>these folks and find out for yourself what you are missing, I doubt
JK>that you would pay any attention if it were possible to use the
JK>papers I got from them as something to stuff into some body orifice.
As soon as one of your "sources" becomes credible, I'll be glad to
check. So far, you rely on Doc Neher and the marketing team.
JK> MP> PET scans have shown that there are areas in the brain that are
JK> MP> underactive and when MPH is administered, they return to the
JK> MP> normal level of functioning.
JK>Strange.......they have shown that also in addictions. Do we go
JK>around drugging everything that acts up and out or do we find out
JK>what is causing the problems in the first place?
No, silly, we use medications for those who require it. Even if we know
what is causing it, and it is probably genetics, then what do you
propose to do? Tell a person that they can lead a screwed up life and
still be happy because we now know what is causing it?
JK>I'm quite certain that some alcoholics would welcome an excuse from
JK>some shrink or mental health worker to use narcotics. The end
JK>result in alcoholism is just that, opiates that pile up in the
JK>brain. And in this nation today, WE DO NOT TREAT THAT DISEASE WITH
JK>MORPHINE!!!!!!!
Where oh where, did the morphine come from, oh where oh where did you
find it?
JK>We cannot keep kids on pills forever and expect to see them grow up
JK>and function normally if the cause of the problem is not found and
JK>eliminated.
If it is genetics, and treating the symptoms is the best we can do for
now, do you propose not treating the symptoms and allowing kids to have
a screwed up life?
