DW> IF Roger = Fingas THEN Patrick Mccullough ELSE 3D vs. 2D
RF> But there's so much more freedom and immersion in a 3D world!
RF> Not to mention realism...
DW> Yeah, but side-scrollers have their points. After all,
DW> Super Mario World 2:
DW> Yoshi's island was a traditional sidescroller, but quite involving.
If you want *real* involvement, I'd suggest Prince of Persia (quite
obviously the inspiration for Tomb Raider), and one of my favourites, Out of
This World. OOTW was a side-scrolling action/adventure that played well but
was still highly cinematic.
RF> Besides, if I wanted to play yet another Mario-clone, I'd buy
RF> someone's old NES.
DW> Just because it's a sidescroller doesn't mean it's a
DW> Mario clone. The Keen
DW> games have an appeal all their own. Keen 3D wouldn't be _bad_, but I'd
DW> still like to see a new sidescroller.
The side-scroller is dying. I admit that there is still fun to be
had with a side-scroller, but technology is passing it by. Now that we have
3D worlds available to us, why restrict ourselves to flatness? There is much
too much potential in 3D action.
