Cuba is kinda unique... no other country in this hemisphere (that we know
of) was ever used to base nuclear weapons pointed at us. The people who
escaped there (and I do consider it to be escape) tended to stick together.
And they know how to get publicity.

People care so much in this situation because for a great many Americans,
its the first time they've been exposed to the fact that this situation
exists. Maybe if the NAACP stood up for the rights of Haitian's trying to
escape that country, they'd get more press too.
