I am a sociologist by profession.  Let me try to explain to where the child 
abuse hysteria train is headed.
 
There are a finite number of abused children and child abusers. 
Psychiatrists, who probably have the most reliable data base, estimate the 
real child abuse rate to be in the 1-3% rage.  A resent survey of children 
turned up 10%.  These are far from the 100% rate of sexual abuse claimed by 
some "experts."  Under normal circumstance, when a finite criminal problem is 
identified, the police will allocate sufficient man power to eliminate or 
reduce the problem by investigating, arresting and prosecuting the 
perpetrators.  Thiss was not done in the case of child abuse. Several entire 
bureaucracies were established whose continued existence depend solely on the 
continued existence of child abuse. When the police resolve the problem, 
manpower is reallocated.  This is not possible with child abuse bureaucrats.  
They would be out of work.  In fact there is not cut-off mechanism in 
existence.  If it were determined that all the child abusers had been caught 
and were in prison, the law currently requires that these people would have 
to catch more child abusers tomorrow or their funding would stop.
This reality is one of the factors providing support and recruitment for the 
militia movement.
 
Based on figures obtained from the child abuse agency here in Arkansas, it 
appears that as many as 1/3 of all Arkansas families have been investigated 
for suspected child abuse.  By the Agnecies own figures 70% were false.  This 
leaves unresolved the actual status of the remaining difference between their 
30% "founded" and the best estimates of child abuse in the 1-10%. range.  
Falsely accusing families of child abuse as a matter of policy erodes 
confidence in the legitimacy of government.  Observations in other counties 
indicate the revolts succeed or fail based, not on their actual numbers so 
much as on the general support they have among the non-combatant population.  
At the current rate of growth, I estimate that the percent of Arkansas 
families investigated for child abuse will be in the 45-50% range at the time 
of the next presidential ellection.  What is going to happen as the total 
number of families investigated and falsely accused of child abuse climes 
above 50% and keeps going.  Remember, there is nothing in place that will 
stop this special interest "investigation."
 
The last component is what happens to individuals falsely convicted and sent 
to prison for child abuse.  Individuals sent to prison for child abuse have 
the lowest status among the prison population.  In one instance, an idividual 
so confined, was beaten and forced to eliminate is bodily waste in his bed.  
He was then forced to sleep in it.  This was related to me by the inmate who 
did it, not the victim.  Some of you may think this is totally justified 
treatment, but not all of these people are guilty.  Put your self in this 
persons place and consider what you would want to do when your sentence was 
up and you were released, if you were innocent.  If someone can physically 
survive such savage treatment for 30-45 years, they are not going to be nice 
people.  Really, what would you want to do if you were falsely convicted of 
child abuse and treated in this manner.  In 1993, it was estimated that 13 
social workers had been killed.  What is the death rate going to be among the 
psycholoigsts and social workers who lied on the witness stand and helped 
send these people to prison.
