WE> Six and a half and still counting. Where's the other half of your
WE> answer? This half sure enuf is half right.
Reminds me of something that was a rather constant irritation for much of
the time I was living and working for a state university operating on
ontract
with the military on the Canal zone in 1953-56.
There was no television there then and the primary English language radio
was the Armed Services Radio. The Military was attempting to induce troops
o
use the Education Centers for their advancement which was an admirable cause.
But, typical of the ads was:
"Charlemagne was crowned Emperor in 400 A.D. NO! Don't be HALF right!"
Then followed the pitch for improving one's education.
The irritation for me was that the answer of 400 A.D. instead of 800 A.D.
is in NO SENSE OF THE PHRASE "half right." It is ALL wrong!!
Perhaps if the subject were math and the question was ? = 400 + 400, then
the answer of 400 COULD be said to be half right but even THAT is dubious.
Sincerely,
Frank
