More likely they were cheering him because a) they want Torrie to sleep
with *someone* on camera, and b) they don't like Billy Gunn.

I wouldn't say he buried him. But maybe they wanted to play up the fact
that Cena really *isn't* a veteran, and that he still has a ways to go.
Not every young lion can get pushed like Brock Lesnar.

Personally, I have no problem with this result; I remember the way I felt
about Batista's push and his feud with Kane, and much prefer the way Cena is
being handled.

Considering how much they played up the "Cena has busted Taker up
internally" aspect, I think you're overreacting. Imagine how many guys
with just over a year of big-time experience would *love* to get that kind
of showing against Taker.
