One day per month. Usually the second tuesday. Applying patches is very easy.

Understanding what things are likely exploitable and not putting those
things on the server is the tough part and then if you need one of those
things, figuring out how to configure it so it's as difficult as possible
to exploit is kinda a learning curve as well.

Best advice I can give you, when you install the server DO NOT take the
default location for anything you install, put everything into a directory
name of your choosing even if you just add a "randall" to the
standard directory names. Oh and when you choose a machine name (the
netbios name that you pick during installation) make the first character a
$.
