That's the way I felt until he backed away from repeal of the ban. I've
been thinking the past few days.... What I've decided is that, come election
day, if it looks pretty obvious that Dole isn't going to win I'm going to
vote Libertarian (for President, still Republican for other races). That way
when the votes are counted there will be something tangible for the GOP to
consider when they try to analyze the reasons for their loss. I'm also going
to write a letter saying pretty much this to the local, state, and nation
campaign chairmen. I want to make it extremely clear that gun owners will
_not_ be taken for granted, that backing away from the repeal diminishes the
distinction between Clinton and Dole, and that we can punish those who break
their promises by withholding our votes and casting them for yet another
choice.
What I won't put in the letter is that, in a very close race, I will most
likely hold my nose and vote for Dole, hoping that he will be more malleable
than a lame duck, avowed anti-gun SOB should a repeal bill come to the White
House for a Presidentialsignature. :-)
