80XXX echo guidelines

Allowable topics of discussion
------------------------------
(1) Assembly language programming problems and solutions.
(2) Discussions of the features of Intel or compatible family of
microprocessors.
(3) Software control of perpheral hardware for these Intel or compatible
family of microprocessors, such as RS-232 chips, peripheral chipsets,
video hardware, plug-in cards, etc.
(4) Also allowable are discussions of other families of microprocessors, such
as the Motorola 68XXX series, embedded controller systems, etc. However
these are allowable so long as there is expertise on the subject within
the echo. No expertise, and you have no one to talk to.
(5) Source may be posted using *zip and uuencoded, keeping the contents
ithin
150 lines and one message. *No binaries* are to be included; the echo is
not for file transfers. Source code and text files only! The purpose is
to keep from losing messages, portions of the source. Single plain-text
posts are preferred. In the case of multiple part postings, permission
from the moderator is required.
Disallowed topics of discussion
-------------------------------
(1) Comparisons between operating systems or microprocessors of different
families or within the same family are not allowed, unless they serve to
illustrate or clarify a point.
(2) Performance comparisons between microprocessors of different families or
within the same family are not allowed, unless it illustrates a design
difference that makes a software task easier.
(3) Asking for economic value assessments of computer purchases is not
allowed.
(4) All other topics that do not fall under the "Allowable topics of
dicussion."
Rules of conduct of participants
--------------------------------
(1) Flaming, i.e. a personal attack on any participant is NEVER allowed.
(2) Participants may not use high ASCII characters (i.e. characters with
ASCII values greater than 127) nor control characters (i.e. characters
with ASCII values 0-31) within the body or header of their messages.
(3) Particpants are here in this echo knowing that they are under no
obligation to give help. They are simply volunteering their help.
(4) When help is given, participants are under no obligation to believe or
accept anything that was said to them.
(5) Help may not be forced upon another participant.
(6) Participants may not post advertisements on the echo without the consent
of the moderator. This includes advertisements for BBSs, commercial, and
not-for-profit enterprises.
(7) Participants should take questions, comments or complaints about the
moderator's actions to the moderator first, via private netmail if
possible.
Duties for the moderator
------------------------
(1) The moderator will warn BBS systems when they send out duplicate
messages, or when they send out messages not conforming to Fidonet
standards.
(2) Only the moderator can define a conversation as flaming. The moderator
reserves the right to use whatever means necessary to stop such messages.
This includes preventing threads from escalating to flaming.
(3) The moderator reserves the right to label a thread as off-topic and stop
it using whatever means necessary.
(4) The moderator reserves the right to allow off-topic threads if he or she
believes it is information that the participants require. These threads
may then be ended by the moderator at any time.
