subject: GREEN-CHEEKED CONURES

-> From what I know of Amazons, it sounds to me as if he's begging for
-> even more attention. I don't know much about conures but if he's not
-> biting in fear, and not because he's mad, then a nip now and then is
-> probably just showing how much he likes being with you.
Do you have Amazons? I just read an article in 'Bird Talk' about how
much Amazons love to shower. They sound like fun. This little Conure
bites the same as you and I blink our eyes. It is second nature to him,
but I am confident that I can re-shape the behavior at least somewhat.
He was a hand-fed baby, but I didn't do the feeding. We purchased him
from a Todd Marcus store about 6 weeks ago. He's not 6 mo. old yet so
he's not too old to be worked with.
-> Love him to pieces and learn to trust him, and he'll bite you only
-> GENTLY!
I do love him to pieces ...and he doesn't bite out of spite or to be
mean...it's nothing I can't handle.
-> Best thing I can say about my ringneck dove is that he NEVER bites
-> me. Cooing at 3 AM is marginal..... But, not near as bad as an
-> Amazon waking up at six to greet the sun! Two of 'em is FOUR times
-> as bad.
I really want to get a Dove too. Can they be tamed? Does yours let you
hold it? There are a couple of Morning Doves that live somewhere around
our roof every summer. I love to hear them coo. They are not super
scared of humans and I often will see one strutting around near my front
walk. I always talk to it and it doesn't fly right away. I can get close
enough to it now that I could touch it if I wanted to, but I don't want
to frighten it. I always put out all kinds of food for all the wild
birds. One of the "Bird Stores" that we frequent has several different
types of Doves for sale and I am always tempted to get one.
The other bird that I really want is a Crow. American crows are illegal
to keep, but there are other types that are legal. Maybe, I'll just have
to get some land and become licensed as a bird-rescuer or something
...wouldn't that be neat? Thinks of all the Crows, Owls, and other
Raptors that could be saved. Well, I'd better stop, I am rambling.
Thanks for your answer and suggestions.
Bright Blessings,
