From: "Glenn Meadows"
Yea, our NY offices hosts their server (mail and web) at Rackspace in
Texas. Earlier this year, the server got rooted due to lack of security on
their end. It was format/re-install everything. We subsequently migrated
to a new box, but the fees for everything run close to $1,000/month for
bandwidth and everything that is included. And, they JUST
"approved" the roll out of SP1 to 2K3 server on their network.
Little did they know, that it's been installed since it fist came out.
AND, I'm still responsible for keeping up with the patches for the box (It
has SQL on it, because the mail program that they supplied, Mailmax,
requires SQL for authentication and operation. Very shortly, we're going
to move all the "stuff" internal. Mail server in the NY office,
and move all the websites on to our spare servers here in Nashville, with a
dedicated internet line.
I'm even considering moving out streaming content inhouse. For Streaming
content, we're paying $4,000/month for 600gig of streaming. We're
averaging 550-580gig/month right now, which can pay for a bunch of
bandwidth doing the streaming ourselves.
