 I think the point here is that you can't change the game on a console system 
like the Playstation. The only reason Doom stayed around for so long was 
because you could EDIT it. That also explains why the game was widely played
on PCs but not on consoles, after it became available. 
 Duke is in a similar situation. Yes, the engine would look much better, but
you'd be stuck with the levels already made - you couldn't modify it in any 
way. For a game like Street Fighter or Destruction Derby, of course the PSX 
version will be better - those are the types of game the PSX is geared 
oward.
But for Duke, the main fascination is being able to add on to it and the 
ability to kill your friends in a deathmatch. Neither can be done well on the
current crop of console machines.
