Simply by putting . somewhere in your path, like this:
PATH c:\bat;.;..;c:\ut;c:\nu; etc etc
If 4Dos notices the . entry, it will stop checking the current dir first. 
It's been a documented feature of 4Dos that already existed before I ever 
knew of 4Dos' existence. ;-) (And I wasn't born yesterday, I might add )
