Hello Lee,
HD>> The reply of a virus checker under every messages is completely
HD>> useless.
LL> I agree. But it is something that is apparently beyond my control.
No it is not.
You are using the free version of AVG.
When buying the paid version you can swith of the virus checking msgs.
HD>> The (real) moderator should forbid that.
LL> And how, pray tell, would any moderator be able to force a company
LL> to do his/her bidding?
That's another story.
If you donot leave it away,
the moderator could ask your uplink to cut your feed off, theoretically.
Now with the FidoWeb this is almost impossible.
HD>> A anti virus program should work silently and only log to its onwer,
HD>> i.e. in a log file, not to the public.
LL> The option not to use an anti virus program is not an option.
Yes it is, you donot need an internet connection for FiodNet.
FidoNet E-Mail.
LL> Not a viable option, unless one wants an infected computer.
No, I donot use Windows for InterNet and no Windows for FidoNet.
So a Windows antivirusprogram is NOT needed.
HD>> And second, FidoNet's EchoMail E-Mail.
LL> How does a participant go about participating in a forum if
LL> he/she is unable to protect his/her system from viruses?
FidoNet EchoMail is NOT an InterNet Forum.
LL> Reverting to snail mail is not an option.
LL> Except for prison inmates, and those in the loony bin.
FidoNet normally works via POTS, and sometimes via tcp/ip BinkP.
Not via snail mail.
There is NO E-Mail program or Windows OS needed for FidoNet.
But indeed, If you choose to use Windows, than an anti virus programm is
necessarry. But remember, you are a guest of FidoNet, so leave that e-mail
quirks away please. This is NOT an gated EchoMail Area.
HD>> As my message to lc ml did not help to stop writing the same sentence
HD>> under every msg for years now, I have stopped asking them to do so.
LL> Would you have unprotected sex with a total stranger?
I never have sex with a total stranger.
LL> Some people would. And enjoy it. But they also might
LL> not live very long, for obvious reasons.
That depends.
Did you know that all people working in the porn industry are mostly clean of
soa's? They are all tested every month and use as much cleaning as possible.
The same tests are done for blood giving people to protect the receivers.
HD>> That's why I did not ask LL to stop mentioning his virus rule.
LL> It is not my rule, or even my idea, to have an unwanted message
LL> at the bottom of every message I post.
Then you can still stop it by paying for your antivirus programm.
Here in NL we can get such a (free) program from our ISP.
HD>> The only thing left is the next message key ;-(.
LL> Or an effort to figure out how to solve the problem.
First you could think for yourself to figure that out.
Never ask others for what you can do by yourself.
Second, I gave you some idea's how to solve this.
LL> Which is apparently not your strong suit.
Never underestimate a stranger who has been a computer system manager in his
former job, all be it 20 years ago, I am still very busy at many computer
systems and clubs.
HD>> But still it is wasting of transportation bandwith and harddisk storage
HD>> room.
LL> If everybody thought like you, there would be no participants
LL> at all in fidonet.
Not at all.
You are one of the very few persons who uses an E-Mail program for FidoNet,
with a free antivusrusprogram, and reporting that check rule at every msg. Not
many do that your way.
LL> This email has been checked for viruses by AVG.
This is FidoNet EchoMail, NOT InterNet E-Mail!
LL> http://www.avg.com
You are commercially advertising here.
Henri.
