subject: Re: African Gray Newbie - HELP!

I just came across your post. I didn't read past about three replies,
since they just turned into another stupid argument that didn't answer
your question. And I'm sure the replies to this post will soon
deteriorate into the same twaddle.
I have a Timneh African Grey, which I inherited about 10 years ago. I
live alone, and I work, so I'm away from the apartment all day, every
day. Sometimes, I'm gone over night, too.
When I am home, I do spend time with Peppy, and we get along fine. He
wasn't handled much as he was growing up, so he's not very cuddly, but
he really does want and need attention when I'm home. He likes to
explore the apartment, and if I'm not paying attention to him, he'll
come looking for me. He imitates every sound he hears, whistles,
imitates several people's voices, and enjoys interacting with people.
He likes destroying newspaper tents I make for him. He eats a variety
of foods, from seeds and pellets, to fresh fruit and veggies, and the
occaisional taste of whatever I'm eating.
When I'm not home, he listens to the radio, CDs, or the tv, and he has
toys that he plays with.
He's happy and healthy, despite my schedule.
I am not an expert on birds, but in my experience, my grey is a fun
companion who seems to tolerate living with me just fine.
Greys are very smart, very adaptable, and make great pets. But they're
not the kind of pet you can just put in a cage and ignore. They won't
let you :o).
I hope this helps you make your decision.
