I love hearing people talk about the patch.  But I for one would like
to bring some attention to Nicorette gum.

When I gave up smoking I looked into whether the patch or the gum was
the way to go for me.  What I found at the time was this advice:  if
you tend to smoke fairly evenly throughout the day, go with the patch
probably.  But, if you smoke off and on a lot during the day (smoking a
lot, then going periods without) the gum will probably fit your needs
better.

The gum allows for the extra nicotine when your body is used to it.
And let me tell you, the gum works.  About the fifth time I quit
smoking, I did it with the gum.  (I tried about three times with
nothing, then once when I wasn't really serious with the gum, then my
final attempt.)

I wonder why I don't see more ads for it?

One thing that really bugs me though is a friend who'll wear the patch
then say "oh, hell, I'll have a cigarette anyway".

That's very dangerous.

Anyhow, anything with nicotine is going to be addictive.  But I don't
know anyone addicted to the patch or the gum.  People just tend to go
back to smoking if that's the way it's going.
