Tell ya what. Listen to this story and I'll leave you alone. This was
1962/3 or thereabouts. I had a 55 Del Rey w/265 2bbl and 3spd overdrive. My
buddy had a 55 Pontiac, 3spd period. Both were the pillar tudor models.
I could clean his clock anytime.
One nite, he challenged me to another go. As his tail lights disappered in
the nite, I heard the valves of my little 265 just banging away. When I
looked at the tach, it read 7000rpm (still have that tach) and I shifted into
second. I'll admit that I was fortunate to have an engine left, but the thing
did rev to that rpm without harming it what-so-ever.
When I cornered him I asked what he had done to make it that fast. 1957,
347ci Pontiac engine. This prompted me to buy my first 327 to make it a
little faster.
You can go now.
