Hi, Michael;
JS> I've suggested the screened console thing but I'd prefer to grab hold
JS> of him and sit him in a metal shack at the bottom of the garden with a
JS> mains extension to power his Play Station :D
I have a couple neighbors I'd like to feed his TV direct from the coax
from my transmitter! They are complaining to the landlord about TVI on
Channel 18 on the cable! It just so happens that 2 Meters, (my most-used
band, where I'm licensed for ONE THOUSAND WATTS but only run about 8-10
watts!), is right smack in the middle of the band where the cable Co. puts
Channel 18! And these newer all-cable ready TVs with PLASTIC cases CANNOT
keep 2M out of cable Ch 18... PLUS the fact that the cable here has a
leak, so even if the cable were fixed, those d*** TVs can NOT keep Ch 18
out! How do you tell an irate neighbor that his EL-CHEAPO $500-$700 TV is
the problem??? Meanwhile the landlord is threatening to throw me out on
my ear, BBS, radios and all!!!
MS> I suppose, if the people were complaining of TV reception problems,
MS> you could pop a small VHF antenna at the top of your tower, run it
MS> through a ferrite filter and give them a clean lead for their TV to
MS> run.
I would, (on my VERY limited income!), BUY them a cut-channel antenna for
Ch 18, a booster if necessary, get it installed on the roof and run
twinlead to all units in the building if it would SHUT THEM UP! But then
they would have the GREAT INCONVIENCE of switching their fancy plastic-
cabinet, UNSHIELDED cable-ready TVs from cable to antenna every time they
wanted to watch Ch 18! AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! BOOOO-HOOOO!!!
These people CANNOT UNDERSTAND that the problem is (A) in the cable
company's cables, and (B) in THEIR EL-CHEAPO TV'S! And they don't give a
spit that this station is licensed by the Federal Government, and that
this station DOES handle emergency messages, that COULD, one day SAVE
THEIR LIVES! But all THEY care about is Channel 18!
MS> If all appliances were required to have mandantory filters installed,
MS> then these problems wouldn't originate.
RIGHT! But it's cheaper for the cheapskate manufacturers to NOT spend a
few cents adding shielding and a high-pass filter to their JUNK for the 1%
that will NEED it, and let the Hams & CBers fight it out with the buyers
and the TV shops! Then you have the Jap-made sets, (about 95% of what's
sold!), and it's harder to mandate what the Japs will put in their sets
than it is to mandate to the American manufacturers.
MS> :-)... "Hey, Michael.. How the heck do you get all of these overseas
MS> QSL's, if you've only got VHF/UHF privileges!"
Satellite? ;-}
