I was in Normandie, less than 1 km from the central line on Aug 11th, 1999 and I was lucky. The clouds broke at the moment suprŠme. It was great. In a (commercial) plane you can only see through a small window. Can not feel the temp drop, can not hear the birds stop singing, etc, etc. The only pro I can see is that you have a guaranteed cloud free view. The lack of atmosphere above, will probably more than offset by the poor optic quality of the aircraft window.
