Hi Peter! With today's technology, you're better off doing your own
video editing with a pair of Panasonic AG-1970 or comparable VCR's
plus a frame accurate controller - the controller might be a card
for your computer, or a standalone unit. Total cost will be between
$1500-2000. This system will make adequate images for industrial
training and promotional tapes, however going beyond 3 or 4
generations the copies will become unacceptably noisy.
For under $1000, any video system you could add to your computer
would only offer some regrettable combination of grainy, blocky
images, low frame rates (making motion look very jerky), and
extremely short storage times. For your comparison, recent
technology breakthroughs in computer-based video editing systems
used by professional film and TV crews have brought those systems'
costs WAY down from their past levels - to the $10-15,000 dollar
point for a basic, entry level system!
