NORTHROP F-20 TIGERSHARK
When the fisrt Tigershark was flown (82-0062, at Edwards AFB on
the 30th of August 1982) it was designated F-5G. Shortly
afterwards the designation was changed to F-20. The F-20 was
originally intended for sale to Taiwan. External changes from the
F-5 include a flattened "shark" nose, a two-shock inlet ramp, an
enlarged canopy, and of course the single GE engine. The cockpit
was more modernised and equipment options included a GE G-200
radar and the ability to carry Aim-7 or AMRAAM missiles. Three
F-20As were completed, two of which crashed due to pilot error.
Each successive prototype had some refinements over the previous.
The lack of production orders eventually forced Northrop to
shelve the programme.

AMRAAM, provision for up to 20,000lb of external ordnance.
