Same experience here, though not RS.
Either electronic gizmos go buggy early in the factory warranty, or they
don't go bad beyond things any idiot could fix like tightening knobs. Either
way, the extended warranty is a bad buy.
Extended warranties are much more profitable for retailers than the item
they insure in many fields other than electronics. When buying a car, the
sales manager demanded I sign, item by item, a waiver form acknowledging that
they had offered me various extended warranties (and didn't buy them)!
