Pretty hard to do since the early rods were a small journal (2" shaft,
2.2247 rod bore) and the late rods were large journal (2.1" shaft,
2.3247 rod bore) ....
The only V-8 that used/uses 5/16 rod bolts is the 289/302 Ford (and the
hipo/boss rod for those used 3/8 rod bolts). Before ARP was around, we
used to ream the 289 rods to 11/32 (with a valve guid reamer) and put in
283/327 Chevy rod bolts ....
