KJ> Hi! Welcome to Parrots! I'm the sometimes-missing moderator!
Thank you!
KJ> If the bird is interested, there should be no problem teaching him
KJ> more things. But if the bird doesn't feel like it, there is no way you
KJ> can MAKE him learn it! What *I* would do is sing the whole song
KJ> in front of him regularly. If he learns that there is MORE, he may begin
KJ> to tack on the second half. Of course, he may sing it 2nd part first,
KJ> too, because that part is newer and more interesting...
I know, it's time. I'll have to give him the time.
KJ> Beyond that, my conures tend to learn to say things they can relate to
KJ> actions or objects; such as "Is it good?" when I put food in dishes, or
KJ> "Bye-bye" when I get out my car keys. They have yet to learn anything
KJ> really abstract. I spent 6 months trying to teach one to say "Rock and
KJ> Roll!"...no luck! But she picked up "Hey baby!" in 7 days because the
KJ> birdsitters (my nieces) said it EVERY TIME they picked her up from her
KJ> cage. To her, "Hey baby!" means "come get me"!
Elliott recognizes a jacket. When he sees me putting my jacket on in the
morning, he calls out, "Goodbye, Elliott!"
Every phrase ends with an "Elliott" in his world. :-)
KJ> Try being very consistent in your use of phrases and words when you are
KJ> around your Amazon, and see if he picks anything up.
I'll give it another shot. Thanks much!
