If you can get an old (obsolete) kwh meter you can splice it into an extension
lead...

it sounds like the unit described may need to be powered up to retain its
memory so you'd need to plug the pump switch into the kwh meter.

  wall-socket<<=meter<<=pump controller/relay<<=pump

dunno if that's practical.

the article desn't mention recording on/off tiomes for the tested device
you may need a separate device to log that...
