I think they followed the formula and used the tropes, but I'm okay
with that. :-)

I think if they had NOT followed the formula they would have been
chastised for not being enough like the OT.

IOW, I enjoyed the prequels, but the haters out there complained that
it wasn't enough like IV - V - VI, so I think they felt like they HAD
to go that route...

As for the movie itself, I enjoyed it! I liked the interplay between
the characters and the development of Kylo!
