Fanaticism is the enemy of clear thinking.  The bottom line is that it is
only the irrational hatred of Castro that affects this case.  There is no
other circumstance which would raise such an outcry, even if we were
sending him back to countries or conditions that are far worse than Cuba.

Plus, you can't underestimate the effect of the simple fact that the Miami
Cubans are an important political constituency in Florida.  Those who
accuse Clinton of politicizing this case ignore the plain truth that it
would have been politically safer to grant Elian asylum.
