I hope I'm not misconstruing what you mean here but your comment
reminds of something that I, and others, have said here before. It's
not always (if ever?) necessary to know everything, or even a little
bit about everything, IF you have the knowledge of where to look and
the ability to retrieve the information needed for what ever purpose.
That doesn't exclude traditional sources of information (text books,
hard copy encyclopedias etc) but certainly does include WWW sources.
I know that I've been able to gather a lot more information in a far
shorter period of time by doing web searches than by haunting the
library. I'm not implying that libraries are out dated, just not as
easy to use..
