need it, no?  You don't need to be 'paying' on it constantly for years just 
for that moment when it is needed, right?

Assuming the average message is 1311 bytes and the average name is 10 bytes, 
that's a unnoticeable <1% increase.  But if the average message is 1311 bytes 
and the average PGP Sig is 338 bytes, that's a 25% increase.
