First, I see many multi-part UUENCODE'ed postings in Fido, so I'm not sure
your 125-line limit really exists.
Secondly, it bothers me that Fidonet is the only medium on which advertising
is free, if we allow it. In the press, TV, even the Internet, the
advertiser pays. But it seems that most of our readers are willing to
donate THEIR SYSOP's resources to advertisers for free, so I guess I'm in
the minority. If we do allow them in here, I don't believe that advertisers
shoudl be allowed to post for free as often as monthly, which someone
indicated was EE's habit. I believe that advertising when a product is
genuinely new (not just an update), and thereafter every six months, should
be plenty.
This all raises the question as to whether CD-ROM distributions such as
that under discussion have been rendered obsolete by the Internet. As far
as I'm concerned, the Internet is the medium of choice for getting files (no
flames, please) because Fidonet has never allowed us masses to Freq. files.
On the other hand, Fido is still the medium of choice for technical
discussion, because most Fido echoes are much better moderated than the
Internerd.
