ET>My name is Elaine, and I am an addict!
Shall we all go around the circle and admit our addictions?
ET>too much. The problem I have run into is that he is a little nippy. Is
ET>this something that we can work with to teach him not to bite? He isn't
ET>mean or anything...he just likes to take a little nip of anything around
ET>him (including ears, shoulders, arms, hairs on arms, freckles, moles,
ET>clothing, and almost anything else he can.) Does anyone know if it is
ET>possible to modify this behavior in Green-Cheeked Conures?
I don't have Green cheeks, but I do have jendays and cherry-heads. They
all get "chewy" when young. Try keeping approved toys handy, and when he
reaches for a mole or clothing, etc., say "no", then hand him a toy.
When he takes it, praise him! Keep doing this, and don't ever let him
just "taste" forbidden objects, even once--pop toys in his beak every
time he reaches for something. He'll figure it out eventually!
