I have a 28.8 BPS modem, and I dial directly to the BBSes I use, rather
than paying for a dialer service to dial the long distance calls for me.
(I'm not even sure if those dialer service companies still exist--I
haven't used one in over 2 years now). So I pay by the minute, and the
rate varies depending on how far away I'm calling. It can be as low as
10 cents a minute, up to almost a dollar a minute, depending on where
I'm calling. Yes, I'm in the USA, near Detroit, Michigan.
