Hello mark,

I was hoping to get an answer to thet.

It is not for myself. A long time ago, when I wanted to convert my FidoNet
system from POTS only to POTS+IP, I made an attempt to run Irex under DOS.
But then I found that in standard configuration it would only do dial-up
and not run via LAN on an existing connection. When I also could not make
InterMail run under the multitasker that came with Novell DOS, I decided it
was time to let go of DOS and I abandoned any attempts to make Irex run
under DOS.

What is happening, is that Telecoms in Western Europe are fading out
classic POTS and ISDN. All will be NGN (Next Generation Network). Voice
will be VOIP and that will be probably not reliably support classic modems.
We still have a couple of diehards here who insist on running their Fdionet
stuff on their decades old DOS machines. They say if they have to transpose
it to a new OS, they will leave Fidonet. We don't want to lose those folks,
we want to help them find a way to stay in. So... we are investigating the
options...

I was thinking about the DOS version of Irex, but of course not with
dial-in as that will not be possible anymore either when the Telso drop
POTS. It has to work in combo with a DSL or cable connection.

It would be a big help if I could be sure that it IS possible.

Cheers, Michiel
