ZyXEL LAUNCHES 33.6Kbps DATA/FAX MODEM FOR CORPORATE USERS
Full-Featured High-Speed Modem Features Menu-Driven LCD Display and Operation 
on Dial-Up and Leased Lines
ANAHEIM, Calif., February 3, 1997
ZyXEL Communications announces its U-336S high speed data/fax modem, an 
"industrial strength" unit with a menu-driven display, aimed squarely at the 
corporate network and remote access service marketplace.
In addition to its higher speed, the new product has been designed with very 
broad compatibility to support a wide range of users including international 
customers. The U-336S also provides operational and reliability features 
typically required by corporate network administrators.
Compatibility
Compatibility features of the U-336S include:
•Compatibility with all common modem standards from 33.6Kbps to 300bps. 
•Operation on 2-wire dial-up or 2/4-wire leased lines. •Compatibility with 
all popular fax transmission standards from V.27ter (4800bps) to V.17 
(14.4Kbps). •Compatibility with all popular computer and network operating 
systems including DOS®, Windows® 3.x/95/NT, Unix®, Novell NetWare®, 
Macintosh®, and IBM® AS400/RS6000, among others. •Compatibility with U.S. 
domestic and international line voltages.
Operating and Management Features
The U-336S' high performance levels -- including support for DTE speeds to 
460.8Kbps -- are supplemented with several other monitoring and management 
features network administrators will appreciate, including:
•A 20-character LCD display plus 10 status LEDs. •On-line line condition 
monitoring and reporting. •Auto call-back with password protection for 
security. •Distinctive Ring and Caller ID display.
•Adjustable transmitting level for leased line operation. •Read/write remote 
configuration. •Error correction which includes V.42 with selective reject 
and MNP 3 & 4. •V.42 bis and MNP 5 data compression. •Flash memory for easy 
firmware uploading. •Reliability backed by a two-year parts and labor 
warranty. 
Pricing and Availability
Previewed at Comdex Fall in November ‘96, the U-336S high speed data/fax 
modem is scheduled to ship late February. Suggested list price is $599, and 
the product is available through major distributors, resellers, VARs, 
retailers and mail-order catalogs.
The U-336S is the latest in a series of ZyXEL high speed access products. 
Other recent announcements include the Prestige 128 ISDN Bridge/Router, the 
Omni Series of ISDN access products for small office/home office applications 
and the Elite Series products which feature analog modem, voice and ISDN 
access.

ZYXEL ANNOUNCES 56K SUPPORT
Leading Communications Solution Manufacturer Expands Product Line with 
High-Speed Analog Technology
ANAHEIM, California, January 2, 1997 - ZyXEL Communications today announced 
it will support the latest 56Kbps modem technology in its current 28.8 Elite 
and Omni product lines. ZyXEL has entered into a licensing agreement with 
Rockwell to incorporate Rockwell's K56Plus technology in its industry-leading 
Elite 2864, Elite 2864I and Omni 288 modems.
ZyXEL will make the new 56KPlus technology available in the second quarter of 
1997. Current owners of Elite or Omni modems will be able to upgrade their 
units at no cost by simply downloading the new firmware.
"We are pleased to be working with Rockwell to be among the first to bring 
56K products to market and provide users around the world with the fastest 
online connectivity speeds available," said Shin Jou Fang, vice president 
marketing.
ZyXEL chose Rockwell's 56Kbps approach due to Rockwell's leading market share 
among ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and its efforts in working with major 
modem vendors such as Lucent and Motorola in establishing the international 
standards.
Commenting on the issue of standards, Fang explained that, "Once an 
international standard has been established and accepted, our Elite and Omni 
modems will be upgradeable. This allows users to have access to the highest 
speed communications today, while ensuring future compatibility once a 
standard is set."
With the addition of 56K to its product line, ZyXEL continues to provide the 
broadest, most complete range of Internet and communications solutions. The

Today's K56Plus analog product announcement comes on the heels of product 
introductions for the digital (ISDN) market. The company recently launched
