    Howdy Jim,
I noticed this post for Brian to Jeff over on Shortwave and tuned
in to these freqs to check it out. If you get a chance please check
these comms out too. I think this might be either the AT&T High Seas
Direct modem mic we were discussing the other day or if its not then
its someother type of packet type comms? Sounds like a continous tone
carrier and then an occasional long packet burst followed by voice.
Also I am hearing some other really encripted traffic type digital
sounds occasonally on 8.968
 What do you think???
    73 de Reid,

The xmsn turned out to sound like the stuff used for some time
by the Navy. Since that time, all the 'green' stuff on the
nets seems to be using the new equipment.

Jeff, I've been hearing that "modem connect" type sound quite often on
5696.0 kHz (USCG) as well. It seems that a strange variation of this was
also heard on 8968.0 kHz. I've been hearing a lot of strange souning
digital traffic lately on both 8968. It could be the new system you refer
to.

Larry Van Horn published a new list of U.S./Canadian "OR" frequencies
(ALE, GHFS, MYSTIC STAR, etc.) in the Utility World section (Monitoring
Times/February 1995). He made note that this list was for ITU Region 2
only. I'd like to see the lists for the otherr two ITU regions plus some
of the new freq assignments for Central and South America. Happy
Monitoring...Brian.
