-=> Mike Ross said to Greg Mayman -=> about "VEHICLE LED'S" on 10-02-03 23:16..... MR> I made the comparison starting at the nominal power rating, between a MR> linear resistance and the lamp. Now that _IS_ comparing apples and oranges! Seems to me that to compare the lamp MR> to itself doesn't show how the current and power deviates from their MR> linear plots. "Constant current" means the device draws the same current at a particular voltage as THE SAME DEVICE does at different voltages. "Constant power" means the device draws the same power at a particular voltage as THE SAME DEVICE does at different voltages. Comparing these curves with the current or power curves of a DIFFERENT DEVICE tells you NOTHING about the constancy of the power or current of this device. And to say that the device has "constant power" because it approximates to the power versus voltage curve of a linear resistance is ridiculous. The linear resistance has a power curve that increases as the square of the applied voltage -- hardly "constant".
